In every casino, whether online or land-based, the game of poker has several variations. Thus, there exist several types of poker according to different ways of classification. And one way of classification is based on the rules of betting. Based on the rules of betting, the game of poker has four types. These are “Limit”, “Spread Limit”, “Pot Limit”, and “No Limit”. The word “limit”, of course, refers to the amount of the bets.

Limit Poker

In Limit poker, the casino or gambling house has already established the amount of bets that should be placed by a poker player. The bet may be fixed at $2, while the amount for a raise is at $3. With Limit poker, a casino player has no choice but to follow the amount prescribed. This type of poker is ideal for those players who have a limited bankroll or are still new to the world of poker.

Another part that is fixed in the game of Limit poker is the number of raises that a poker player may do. For example, the casino may set that only three raises may be done in one turn. This implies that once there are already three raises made, no player may raise anymore.

Spread Limit

In Spread Limit poker, the casino has established amounts for minimum bets and for maximum bets. A poker player may place bets equivalent to the minimum, or to the maximum, or to any amount in between. This is why this variation of the poker game is called “Spread Limit”.

For example, the minimum amount established by the casino may be $1, and the maximum amount may be $5. This means that a poker player may bet $3 or any amount within the range of $1 and $5. This also means that a player may not bet below the $1 or above $5.

Pot Limit

In Pot Limit poker, the casino may have established a minimum bet but the maximum bet will depend on the amount accumulated in the pot. For example, the minimum bet may be $1, but the maximum bet cannot be established yet.

If, during the course of the poker session, the pot contains $100, a poker player may bet any amount between $1 and $100, and even as much as $100. However, no poker player is allowed to bet more than the amount found in the pot.

No Limit

In No Limit poker, as the term implies, there is no limit to the amount that a poker player may bet. This means that the poker player may bet all the chips he has, in an all-or-nothing bid to win the poker game. This type of poker has made it earn the reputation of being a casino game of guts.
