The Draw Poker Home Games

When a poker player joins a draw poker home game, this poker player must immediately realize that home games place less emphasis on competition and greater importance on socialization. This implies that the stakes are small. That is, having a losing streak at home games will not severely dent the finances of the social poker player. But this does not mean that playing draw poker home games require less poker skills. The winner of home games is usually the player with more poker skills than other poker players.

Here are two of the most commonly known home games and their specific characteristics:

- Shotgun - This is also known as the descriptive "Roll' em out" or the creative "Skinny Minnie". Of all draw poker home games, the shotgun poker is the one that is played like a stud poker game. This is because the cards are revealed during the game.

A Shotgun poker game begins with each player receiving five cards. Then, like the standard five-card draw, there will be a first betting round, followed by the draw phase. However, after the draw phase, this game does not immediately proceed to the second betting round. What follows is the "roll-out phase"

In the roll-out phase, the poker players arrange their final five cards in a specific sequence and place these cards, face-down on the table. The first roll-out is done when the top cards of each poker player are faced up. And this is followed by a betting round. Then, the second top card is revealed and another betting round happens. This step is repeated until the fourth card is faced up.

After the fourth card is revealed and its subsequent betting round, the remaining poker players conduct a showdown.

Shotgun can be played either high or low. But when it is played at high/low split, then it is unquestionably named as "Skinny Minnie"

- Spit in the ocean - If the shotgun sounds like a combined draw and stud, the Spit in the ocean can be viewed as a combined draw and community card. But since there is a draw phase, the Spit in the ocean is basically a draw poker variant.

This poker variant begins by dealing each poker player with four cards. Then, one card is placed at the center of the table. This card is face-up and shared by all the other poker players as the fifth card. Once this community card is revealed, the first betting round commences.

After the first betting round, the draw phase happens. This is where the players can replace cards in order to improve their hand. Once the draw phase is done, the second (which is also the last) betting round is done. If two or more players remain in the game, there will be a showdown.
