In many western movies, one can find poker players who wore emotionless faces and bland voices. This leads to the impression that poker players are too serious people who don’t have a lot of fun. These poker players calculate odds and their minds may look like one percentage-generating machines. Such is a boring portrayal of poker players. And such portrayal is wholly false. Unlike the impression of most people, poker players are quite creative, especially in giving names to each other. Here are some of the words that apply to certain personalities of poker players. Limper – When one is assigned the name of a “limper”, this means that one should be the first to call a bet. This limper simply begins the betting round in one poker game. Lead – This term refers to the poker player who first bets into a pot. This may not sound very creative but it calls to mind the term used on sledge dogs that heads the pack. Broomcorn’s Uncle – With disrespect to anyone else’ uncle, this term refers to a poker player who unstoppably antes his bets until he has exhausted all his chips or his bankroll. This poker player is quite ready to become broke each time he plays this casino game. And he can indeed use all his chips by just increasing his bets. Stuck – This term is an adjective that refers to poker players who are stuck in a losing streak. Ultimately, this poker player must leave the table because he simply cannot win and perhaps all his chips are gone. Tight – This term is another adjective that refers to the way a poker holds on to his chips or bankroll. This implies that the poker player is very cautious in putting his chips on the line. He plans to lose as little as possible and this is why he has a “tight” hold on his chips. Often, this type of player does not play as many pots as he should. Loose – This poker player is the opposite of the Tight player. Perhaps he joined the poker table just to practice or burn some extra money. Whatever his reasons, this poker players plays a lot of hands. Maniac – This poker player is similar to the Loose one simply because he also plays a lot of hands. But this player has an aggressive strategy and this is why he is referred to as a Maniac. Monster – This poker player may leave a lot of people in awe. Onlookers of a poker game will be impressed by this player, while his opponents are punching their panic buttons. The major reason is that this player has the ability to create several high stacks of chips although he started only with a humble short stack. |
